Don’t come in at the side because it’ll convey that you’re a nuisance who isn’t worth paying attention to. Stop directly in front of the girl and take up her visual field with your frame.
Speak authoritatively
If you apologise for yourself, either explicitly or implicitly; she simply won’t respect you or see you as someone worth talking to. Speak with conviction.
Give her time to process what’s going on
It’ll take her brain a second or two to process what’s happening after you say hello. Be aware of that and don’t blurt out too much too fast before she’s had a chance to figure out what’s going on.
