Rizz Kids VS Pickup Artists
The rise of ‘rizz kids’ has been facilitated on TikTok, and many people, especially women, are confusing Gen Z ‘rizz’ followers for pickup artists. Here’s how to spot the difference between a pickup artist and a rizz kid.
What Is A Pickup Artist?
A pickup artist is a person, often a heterosexual man, who creates opportunities to meet and talk to women, often using various techniques and other skills to enhance the likelihood of attraction in order to gain sexual partners.
Pickup artists gained particular popularity in the 2000s, following the release of Neil Strauss’s infamous book The Game in 2005. The Game became a cult classic and entered pickup artists into mainstream consciousness, receiving huge pop culture awareness.
The book The Game tells the true story of Erik Von Markovik (Mystery), Neil Strauss (Style) and the early stages of Real Social Dynamics. It follows the real crazy events that occurred as pickup artists learned to seduce women while living together in the Project Hollywood mansion in Los Angeles, which is considered the original game house. Project Hollywood inspired many pickup artists to form their own game houses with the goal of pooling their resources and living with like-minded people who are dedicated to pulling women and hosting after-parties.
The story of The Game also includes some of the backstory of the pickup artist community before the 2000s. The community itself dates back to 1988, when Ross Jeffries (Also a key character in The Game) applied NLP to seduction.
Most recently, Ross Jeffries, the Godfather of the pickup artist community, debated Erik Von Markovik (Mystery); the greatest pickup artist of all time.
What Is A Rizz Kid?
A ‘rizz kid’ is a person, often with Generation Z or Generation Alpha age, who films videos of themselves talking to other people and posts them on TikTok, or who follows ‘rizz’ advice on TikTok.
The term ‘rizz’ is slang for charisma. While a pretty cringe term, it has gained popularity since 2021 with younger generations.
To ‘rizz up’ a woman is actually what everyone else calls pickup; to pick up a woman. The idea is generally the same, only that rizz kids are unaware that they are basically just doing ‘level zero’ pickup, having only just discovered verbal game and a basic form of day game. In other words, rizz kids are trying to do game, but without the guidance of pickup artists or pickup artist material.
There have also been ‘POV rizz’ videos posted on TikTok, which are literally just POV infield videos without the awareness of infield videos already being a thing.
This means that rizz kids are trying to talk to women, but without the gigantic amount of mapping, field testing and trial and error that pickup artists have already done for them in the last 4 decades.
Is Rizz Just The Same Thing As Game?
At this point, Gen Z noobs are ‘discovering’ things that already existed, including the act of talking to women with the advantage of having a personality.
The New York Post recently published an article highlighting how Gen Z coffee lovers ‘discovered’ making coffee at home instead of buying overpriced coffee at Starbucks. They called it the ‘home café’ ‘trend’, as if coffee was never made at home before in the last 100 years by us ancient ones.
This is like a Gen Z Christophorus Columbus from Europe ‘discovering’ America in 2025, because he saw it on the Internet.
It’s like a Gen Z person ‘discovering’ the real world because the WiFi was turned off for an hour.
The reason pickup artistry is a thing is because many men just want love and connection with a woman, and no matter what generation you are, you’re human. Your human needs remain the same, so the attraction and intention towards wanting to learn how to talk to women really is the same.
Whether you like it or not, rizz kids are just pickup artists who don’t know they are trying to be pickup artists. The only difference is that one loves TikTok, and the other loves Game Global and has access to wingmen.
