Ethical Infield Footage: The Future Of Pickup Artist Infield
For years, pickup artists have been filming interactions with women to show viewers how to get phone numbers, uploading it to YouTube and calling it infield footage. But it has come with various ethical concerns around filming women without their permission.
After all, if pickup artistry was properly understood simply as dating, why are so many pickup artists secretly filming women and worried that the women being filmed will find out about it?
Something definitely isn’t right here. But there is a very simple solution for everyone, and I had to look to Japan for the answer.
The Future Of Infield Footage
There are generally 4 types of infield footage…
- ‘Rizz’ Infield
- American Infield
- European Infield
- Japanese Infield
‘Rizz’ Style Infield Footage
In recent years, rizz kids started using Meta Glasses to record their interactions with women with the POV camera inside the frames. Some rizz kids would modify the Meta Glasses, which is against Meta Policy, in order to hide the recording light so that it’s less obvious that the women are being filmed.
Some of these POV videos have gained millions of views on social media, but generally only show surface-level interactions without taking it further than asking for her phone number or Instagram.
Overall, these POV ‘rizz’ infield videos are extremely basic and much more focused on entertainment than anything else. And if you’re trying to stop the light from showing that you’re filming, you should genuinely reconsider whether what you’re doing is even worth it…
American Style Infield Footage
The American style of infield footage can be described as hidden camera infield footage where a pickup artist interacts with women on camera, without their knowledge that the interaction is being filmed. And the women will never know, unless they happen to see the video posted somewhere.
This is something that people tend to have an issue with.
European Style Infield Footage
What we can describe as the European style of infield footage is essentially doing hidden camera infield footage, but then asking for permission at the end of the interaction.
This means that you are open and honest about what you’re doing. You’re not ashamed of being a dating coach. You’re not ashamed of teaching men how to socialize. You are merely just a man trying to make the world a better place.
You’re not a pickup artist trying to secretly film women. A dating coach with real, genuine frame control would understand this and know how to communicate this with women.
It’s not a hard concept to understand. It’s like the difference between cheating men and men who openly date multiple women… Some men are cheaters because they lie to women, because they fear how a woman would react if he had sex with another woman. Better men are honest with women, because they know how to communicate well.
Japanese Style Infield Footage
In 2024, I hosted the Asian Special of the Dating Coach Panel. To prepare for that I had to make a list and identify as many Asian dating coaches as possible to invite to the episode. The episode featured dating coaches of Indian, Vietnamese, Chinese and Korean descent, but Japan came up in the discussion several times.
I soon learned a little about the Japanese pickup artists, known as nanpa (ナンパ). Then I stumbled upon some Japanese pickup artists with active YouTube channels and tried to get some conversations so I could eventually put together a Japanese Special.
I talked to Namedaruma Jan (なめだるまジャン) and came to explore his content. He has essentially been producing live stream infield footage almost every single day, sometimes for more than 3 hours at a time.
And that’s when I started to understand Japanese infield footage. They aren’t hiding cameras. They are live streaming onto YouTube with their phones.
I examined Namedaruma’s videos more closely and learned some very interesting things…
First of all, he puts the camera on himself before approaching a woman; selfie mode. This ensures that women aren’t in the video against their will when they are in close proximity to the video.
Then, he might get one or two lines in after his opener. And one of them will be about if she’s okay with appearing on the live stream. Only then, once she has agreed, does he move the camera away from his face and show hers.
Now, that might sound really boring to a hardcore pickup artist. But there’s another aspect to this… When he’s just casually walking around, he will have the camera pointing away from him, showing the direction he is walking. So you will effectively see the women he sees. And technically, they are on video in a public space during a live stream. Just not up close.
Only when he’s in conversation distance with women, he will switch the camera to selfie mode and show his face. And then he will show her face if she’s up for it.
This officially solves the ethical problem of infield footage. But there’s more…
The Real Advantage Of Japanese Style Infield
The Japanese style of infield footage has so many advantages to it, and it just knocks all other styles out completely.
First of all, you will start to realize that live streams elevate your YouTube channel even further. Monetization is much stronger, and so are the views.
Second of all, you will effectively be building your status both virtually and physically, which is great for business and for dating. The problem I have always had with the concepts of infield and bootcamps is that coaches are assuming zero status by hanging around on the street. You essentially have not much more status than a homeless man. You’re just another stranger. But you can flip the script with Japanese style infield and be a streamer. And women will start wanting to approach you.
Furthermore, you will no longer be alienating the female audience or perspective. You will be able to have women interact with the chat by showing them the chat, which is great for engagement on YouTube. You’re not some weird pickup artist who is afraid to ask her for permission to be filmed. You’re a live streamer with a YouTube channel and a live audience, and that makes you much more interesting.
